Aniseed-scent of fennel
released by a testing breeze
Suede, denim soften this granite perch
Sun warm on my hair then cool
filtered through a shifting colander of clouds
Sea-stripes in the shallow bay
afar beyond a few white tassels wave
Little gulls flit about the rippling rills
estuarine pools embrace salty mud silt
In the distance a puff of smoke resolves
into murmuring starlings
